I'd like to ask for options about using recharged EP toner cartridges and also ask for recommendations for an illusive laserwriter problem. I've been using recharged EP toner cartridges on our 12 laserwriters, actually Apple or QMS laserprinters, for about a year without much problem. We have been saving around $15 per cartridge by using the recharged over purchasing new cartridges at educational discount. months, we have noticed that on long print jobs the later papers have a smudging toward the top of the page for any print in the lower half of the page. One of our QMS printer had this problem in a very bad way. We called in QMS service and after 2 hours and $200 the repairman said it must be the toner cartridges or the paper. Well I brought some new cartridges from Apple and the smudging can still be occasionally seen. The QMS repairman did help the problem after adjusting the laser, insulting the transfer corona assemble and changing the height of the corona wire but its still present sometimes. This sound familiar to anyone? Because the problem seems to occur with new cartridges I am very puzzled. I've even been asking the building engineers if the humidity levels have changed and therefore effected the chance of static electricity. Any advice would be appreciated.
