[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Printer Info Requested

A client of mine is looking to buy a simple, cheap, dot-matrix printer for
the Macintosh Classic they are about to purchase. Currently, they have a
small network (two Macintosh Pluses hooked together with an Apple
LaserWriter) and would like to add a dot matrix printer to this
network so that rough drafts can be printed quickly and without the
cost of the laser.

A friend of mine bought an Epson printer (24 pin) and is very happy with
it, but finding places that sell these printers is becoming more and
more difficult as many mail order places no longer carry them (laser
printers becoming less expensive every day it would seem).

The specs for a printer to solve this problem are:

1. Should cost no more than $350. (Actually, prices up to $500 are fine
but $300-$350 is the "desired" price range).

2. It would be nice if it was 24 pin since they create better output
than printers like the old ImageWriter.

3. If it could be AppleTalked into the network so everyone could
share it, that would be nice, but it's not essential.

4. It comes from a reputable company, like Epson or Okidata and is
   not a clone.

5. Obviously, it must work with a Macintosh.

Basically, I need to know makers and model numbers so that they can
purchase it through their own channels. When you look at mail order
catalogs, it is sometimes hard to know if a printer is for a Macintosh
or not, and whether special adaptors are required to make it work on
a Macintosh.

So, if anyone out there is a printer expert, please send me mail and
if there is interest, I'll post the findings!

Thanks!
