Actually this isn't a very good reason not to buy the LC.  1) To use virtual memory, you have to have an equivalent amount of free disk space available.  At current prices, RAM is cheap enough that you should be able to install what you need.  2) the first thought is particularly true when you realize how slow virtual memory is compared to real RAM.  The amount of disk thrashing you do goes up directly proportionally to the ratio of real RAM to virtual memory used.

The questions to ask before you consider virtual memory a reason to buy a particular model are a) do I have the disk space available to use virtual memory, 2) do I need virtual memory considering the kinds of tasks I use my Mac for and the price of RAM.  For most people the answer will be no to one or the other.
