[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Simms for IIsi

rdw89@ecs.soton.ac.uk (Williams RD) (01/29/91)

I have a 2MB IIsi, and want to increase the amount of RAM. Is it possible to
upgrade by inserting a pair of 1MB Simms (taking total RAM to 3.5MB)? I know
that you had to put in pairs of Simms in the Mac Plus, but nobody I've spoken
to is sure whether that is a good idea for the IIsi. Will I have to go
straight to 5MB?

The IIsi has 1 Mb on board plus 4 SIMM slots that take 256K, 512K, 1meg, 2meg
and 4meg SIMMs in sets of four. Thus the possibilities are 1, 2, 3, 5, 9 & 17
megs. (1meg + (4 x SIMM size))

Realistically, the best value would be 1meg SIMMs which brings you up to 5Mb.
For the price Apple charges for other SIMMs, it's probably not worth going
to 3Mb.

Apple still thinks 1MB SIMMS are worth $250 each list, $175 w/ educ. discount.
THAT'S ABSURD.

Buy a magazine, check the adds, and pick 'em up for <$50, w/ lifetime warranty.

(Apples *most* outrageous prices are on SIMMS)

But do it quick. SIMM prices seem to be going up by the day.
Yes, I did say "up."
