[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Mac+ SCSI chip -- upgrading it

hagan@ecs.umass.edu (02/01/91)

I am curious. i have a mac+. i am interested in replacing the SCSI
chip with a newer, faster model (via the cut and solder method).
I was wondering if anyone had done this
before, or if anyone knows what is the best chip i can put into my mac+
and still have it work. ideally, i would like to use the chip that
is in the mac se/30, as i would like to get as much speed as possible.
however, i have heard that my cpu might not be fast enough to handle it.

also, does anyone know whether upgrading my mac's roms to the 256K ones
would be as simple as plugging them in, (are they pin and motherboard
compatible with the plus).

has anyone else out there done any hardware hacking on their mac to
maximize their speed?

lastly, i was curious: is there any easy way to change my clock speed to
16mhz, like just soldering in a new clock chip, or is it much more complicated
than that.

thanx in advance
