[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Another Jasmine Story

Another tale of woe about Jasmine. My DirectDrive 70 konked out last
September. I called Jasmine and they agreed to repair the drive under
warranty. I would get the drive back in 30 to 60 days, tops. So, the
drive went UPS to CA, and I have not gotten it back yet. I called every
month and did speak to a human, but always got an answer that it would be
shipped the end of the month. I am not sure if I will ever get my drive
back. So, I bought another drive, a Microtech N100, and wish to report
that the Microtech is a terrific unit. I am quite happy with it.

And yet another: Three months after I purchased an 'Innerdrive 80', it
started to get the quantum 'sticktion' problem. I sent it in for repair.
After some haggling, I persuaded them to give me a loaner. However, the
loaner itself went bad after four weeks. I called repeatedly for information,
updates, to speed things up, often getting placed on hold, hardly every
any return calls. Finally, after 5 *MONTHS* and over $150 in
long distance, I received a replacement drive.

But what they sent me was some C.Itoh mechanism (so they said). It is
considerably slower, and 4 months later has developed some VERY bad disk
areas. Their software won't map it out, but will sometimes crash trying to
format the drive. So I called them, and they said 30-60 days for service,
no loaners. So WHAT are we supposed to do in the mean time?

DON'T SUPPORT such AWFUL service policies - Use a supplier with a GOOD
track record, like APS, or LaCie. Otherwise you will pay later!

P.S. APS (Alliance Peripheral Systems) has received good reviews on the
net for their prices, speed of delivery and speed of service.
Since their prices keep dropping, I'd suggest you call for exact
prices. Getting to APS:
Toll-Free: 1-800-233-7550
FAX: (816) 478-4596
International Orders: (416) 478-8300
They advertise "VISA/MC, Corp., Gov., Univ. PS's, NO SURCHARGE, AMEX ACCEPTED"

I hope this helps!
