Hi, I just bought a Quantum 40 meg hardrive from a Technical Service company that was unloading it's store room of boards and miscellaneous computer equipment. I got it *REAL* cheap because they knew it didn't work and the customers machine they took it from paid for a new one, so they weren't losing money on it. It's a bare bones drive, with no connectors or case. I have a Mac IIcx with a Rodime hard drive, so I tried swapping the drives to see what it did. The connections were identical, with the exception that the Quantum drive had an additional connection (~20 pins) next to the SCSI?? plug (~75 pins). When I powered on, the Quantum seemed to make a lot of noise as it got to speed, and I could not get the Mac to find it on the SCSI port. My questions are: 1) Any idea what it would cost to have something like this fixed, (or if you have any ideas about what could be wrong with it) 2) How would I go about hooking this thing up, and what kind of cables, hard ware would I need to hook it up. (e.g. do I need some kind of board to hook it up, or can it just be plugged into the SCSI interface?) 3) Who or where would be the best place to take this thing to? (I live in DC) Thanks in advance, Tom Roehl stubby!tom
