[comp.sys.mac.hardware] CMS Hard Drive on the Classic

v084l3m2@ubvmsd.cc.buffalo.edu (Thomas A Gardner) (02/04/91)

I have a 40meg CMS external hard drive hooked up to a
Mac Classic. About 1 out of 3 times when I go to turn
on the mac it locks up at the "Welcome to Macintosh" screen.
I have tried Zaping the Ram, Re-formating, Re-installing the system
I even had the HD replaced with another CMS 40Meg HD.
I called CMS and they sent me another formating Disk.
That didn't work. Now they tell me that they are working
	on the problem.
If anyone has any idea what the problem might be please
	post some solutions.

It sounds to me like your System File is corrupted. I do see that you used
the installer, but the installer doesn't always fix the system.. It could
still be corrupted.. Did you try DELETING the system file and then use the
installer?

That SHOULD take care of the problem. Let me know...

Ooops... What I meant to ask was : When you "reformat" your hard drive, are
you then copying your old system back or are you totally re-installing it
fresh from your System Tools Disk?

It is also a possiblity that your CMS driver is incompatible. (mine was, I
seem to remember, and I ended using Uni-Mac to install it's driver)

let me know..
