[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Bracket for *full-height* hard disk for Mac II

philipc@runx.oz.au (Philip Craig) (02/08/91)

I am the proud owner of both a Macintosh II (well actually it's a IIfx
inside a IIx box, but you get the general idea) and a CDC Imprimis
full-height hard-disk.

I want to mount the hard disk inside the Mac II, but the chassis as it comes
does not allow disks to go down below about five centimetres from the top of
the casing. This drive needs 8.5 centimeters. I can see that the Macintosh II
case is big enough; my problem is just this chassis bracket. This bracket is
the one that both the hard disk and the floppy drives share.

So....does anyone know if what I want to do is possible, and if so, where I
can buy a bracket (inside chassis, whatever) that will allow me to do this?
My alternative is to buy some massive external drive box, and I'd rather not
do this. I mean, it would make my Mac that much less portable :-).

I once heard of a CDC 1 gigabyte drive being sold that came with such a
bracket. Does anyone know if this is true or (even better) have any contact
details of where I can get one? U.S. details are helpful, Australian details
would be fantastic.
