[comp.sys.mac.hardware] FAX Modems: Waking up the Mac/ Connecting Answering Machine?

aras@ecerl1.ece.ncsu.edu (Caglan M. Aras) (02/09/91)

Has anyone out there used a FAX modem such as the Dove or Abaton and
also wanted to wake up the Mac when the phone rings instead of keeping
it on all the time? I have seen some cards for the PC that have this
wake up feature.

Also, I would like to use my answering machine on the same line,
meaning, if the incoming call is a person, they will not see the FAX but
will be greeted by the answering machine; if it is a FAX, the tones will
be detected by the FAX modem and the line to the answering machine cut
off. The Murata FAX machines (models M1100, M1750, M1800, M1850) have
built in facilities for this but they are more expensive than FAXmodems.

Any help will be greatly appreciated; I will collect and post responses.
Thanks a bunch.
