[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Req f info on hand-held scanners: Thunderware, Scanman, Com

fleming@cup.portal.com (Stephen R Fleming) (02/11/91)

I have had very good luck with the LightningScan 400 handheld. Excellent
for line-art, and the 'stitching' software is quick and accurate. Outputs
to Paint, TIFF, and PICT formats -- basically everything I need.

Quality is so-so on photographs -- certainly acceptable, very recognizable,
lots of greyscale tweaking possible -- but the resolution just isn't as good
as a 256-grey flatbed. However, the price certainly is right!

Haven't used the other handhelds, but I picked the LightningScan after reading
everything in print and I've been happy.
