This is a question that a lot of new Mac users (like myself) would be interrested in. What printer/cabling/driver combinations fill these requirements: 1) The absolute cheapest output from the Mac, both graphics and text (prob. a Grappler 9-pin w/ cheap 9 pin Centronics). 2) The cheapest near-LASER quality (very good inkjet) for TEXT (graphics nice but not necessary). 3) The cheapest laser printer. 4) The cheapest postscript laser. Email replies. Remember, put the printer, method of connection, printer driver, and any possible problems with the printer set up (remember, this is for NEW Mac owners, like myself) and I'll post a list of replies in a week or so. Apple is releasing a new inkjet printer called the Style Writer. It is serial interface, 360 dpi, QuickDraw, and has 13 True Type fonts. It will handle plain paper and envelopes. It is very slow, prints about half a page a minute. Apple will be releasing this in the next few weeks. It is to list for around $699, but my dealer quoted me a price of $500. In contract, the HP Desk Writer (also a laser jet) uses LocalTalk, 300 dpi, has 13 3rd-party fonts, and prints at a faster 1 page per minute final draft. The street price on this printer is about $695, somewhat cheaper through some of the mail order companies. Hope this answers some of your questions.
