Does anyone have any statistics on system performance improvement
by running 8M of memory rather than 4M?

  the main advantage of running 8m is that you get two memory controllers.
this is good for about 15-17% cpu speed increase. SAO, and northeastern
found that there was little benifit going beyond 6m, but that is job size
dependent.

  if you are realy curious, there is this led on board 23 of the cpu (all
by itself, unfortunately under the orange stripe on the cover), called the
"Stall" light. this lights up every time the cpu has to wait for the SBI.
