I'm pretty inexperience with Macs, and I hope that someone more experienced can help me with my problem. I installed an Apple PC Disk Drive (5.25") and controller card into a new Mac IIfx last week. Then I installed and tried to use the Apple File Exchange utility with the PC drive. The AFE seems to work fine -- it finds the hard disk, a network disk, and any Mac floppies in the built-in drive. It doesn't recognize the pc drive at all. The drive does have power -- as indicated by the faintly glowing red light on its front. I called the vendor, who suggested that I install the card and drive in some other Mac II, not an fx, saying that the fx is a little wierd. That sounds possible but unlikely. When I first installed the card, the fx took a long time to boot up, perhaps a minute or two. This suggested to me that it might have some trouble recognizing the pc disk drive's controller card. But now, without any changes I can think of, the boot process goes at its normal fast rate. The fx runs os version 6.0.7, Finder 6.1.7, and AFE 1.1.1. If anyone has advice for me, I'll be grateful. - Paul Shannon pts@Virginia.EDU
