[comp.sys.mac.hardware] KidsTime on an LC --- Speech Impediment!

erickson@crevas.enet.dec.com (John Erickson) (03/21/91)

	Hey There!

I have a new LC and am trying to get "KidsTime" from Great Wave
	to work properly.

	    * Most of the program modules that use sound do seem to
	      work properly

	    * The program modules that use _speech_ (using Macintalk)
bomb out with a "Bus Error" whenever speech should be
invoked. These modules are "ABKey(tm)" and "Story Writer"

I called up Great Wave and the person on the line immediately
assumed it was because I hadn't moved Macintalk and Story Speak
from the floppy System Folder to my HD System Folder. Doing this
	didn't solve any problems.

I'm not the only person with this problem --- a guy I know has
exactly the _same_ problem, but has more information:

* ...I'm running System 6.0.7, Macintalk V2.0, and KidsTime (year-old version),
* and I get a system error every time it tries to read text. A couple of the
* system errors were "illegal instruction" and "FPU not present" -- a clue that
* the KidsTalk code assumes all 020 CPUs have FPUs (which, with the LC, became
* a false assumption). If this is the case, Great Wave will have to fix it.

So what's the deal? Has anyone else had similar problems?

	Have a GREAT one!

	John

If it's MacinTalk that makes the assumption, Great Wave can't fix it.
Try running the PseudoFPU init.
