Does anyone own one of these beasts, or has anyone seen one in action? I have the opportunity to get one quite cheaply, but I have heard rumours about recalls, and that they are very slow and/or noisy, and other terrible things. However, I can get one for significantly less than an Imagewriter II, and it seems that it might be worth it at that price. I've also heard that they have been discontinued, but that an upgrade will be available to make them into something better -- Imagewriter LQ II, perhaps? Trevor Smedley smedley@udel.edu

I wondered if anyone out there would be interested in an ImageWriter LQ. I bought one right after they came out (Jan 88?) I found it to be frustrating and used it for about three months before I sticking it back in its box. The paper jammed alot, some fonts didn't print correctly, selected lines printed out of registration, and getting fonts that were 3x was harder than the ImageWriter II. And yes, it was noisy and slow (particularly when multiple fonts are required in a document. I was so frustrated I went out and bought a LaserWriter II NT. Fortunately I was working as an outside salesperson and saved a bundle on taxes by depreciating the $3200 I speint on the NT. I've tried selling the LQ through Apple Dayton's bulleting board, the Trading Post, and I even tried to sell it at Apple Dayton's auction. Noboy even bid on the thing! I do know that I Apple used to have a program to allow people to return the LQ and they would give you back a modified LQ (not your original one) and some new drivers have helped with some of the printing problems. I never took advantage of the program because the printer was brand new and getting a recycled printer in return didn't seem very attractive. Besides, with a LaserWrtier II NT next to my Mac, I tried my best to write the LQ off as a bad dream. If your looking to buy a printer in the price range of the LQ I would think the Inkjet printers available from HP and others would be the better way to go. By the way....I have this nice 27-pin NEAR LETTER QUALITY printer for sale. Nearly new condition. Fresh B&W and color ribbons. I'll even throw in a box of diskettes with ImagerWriter II fonts.... Greetings, I am in need of a 24 pin impact printer. At the moment, I have two options, get an Imagewriter LQ (are they still being sold by apple?) or use a Grappler LX and get a parallel printer. What I'd like to know is, is the Imagewriter LQ a good printer? Does it work/behave well? I have not heard much about it but I seem to have the impression that it might of been one of those bombed products. Second, does anybody have any recommendation on a third party printer either mac compatible or parallel? Thanks.
