I've got a macIIx which has taken to shutting itself down, usually just as I reach for "save" in the file menu8-). The machine is about 2 years old and hasn't seen much use until recently. The trouble appeared after installing an extra 4 megs of ram (the total is now 8) and adding a wren runner hard disk powered off the switched outlet on the back. The switched outlet also powers the monitor (apple 13") and an imagewriter. An apple video card is installed along with a Nuvotech ethernet card. The machine won't restart for a couple of minutes after is quits, then it restarts normally and may run for several hours, or quit again in a matter of minutes. When it quits both the cpu and all peripherals go down. It seems clear the trouble is in the power supply, but does anybody know of a solution less extreme then simply replacing the ps? If not, what is the going price for a power supply and how hard is it to replace? thanks to all bob prohaska physics department university of california irvine, ca 92717
