Can Apple's 5.25 inch disk drive that is attached to a Mac II read Apple ][ 5.25 disks? If it can, does one use the Apple File Exchange software to read them? The best way to read Apple II 5.25" disks is to transfer them to Apple II 800K disks using an Apple II with both. -- Matthew T. Apple's 5.25" drive won't let the Mac read Apple II disks, BUT: Kennect now makes two 5.25" floppy drives which can read and write various IBM and Apple II formats. If I remember correctly (someone correct me if I'm wrong), these are the formats: Drive 360: Reads, writes, and formats MS-DOS 360K and Apple II 143K floppies (can't read, write, or format MS-DOS 1.2 MB disks) Drive 1200: Reads, writes, and formats MS-DOS 1.2 MB floppies Reads and writes (but can't format) MS-DOS 360K and Apple II 143K disks In either case, you'll also need to buy Kennect's Rapport, a device which connects to the floppy drive port; either Kennect drive can then connect to Rapport. (I don't know if drives can be daisy-chained.) As an added bonus, if your Mac doesn't have a SuperDrive (FDHD) then Rapport lets your 800K floppy drive(s) read -- but not write or format -- MS-DOS 720K disks. Disclaimer: I don't work for Kennect -- I'm not even a Kennect customer.
