[net.followup] National's Genix on IBM PC's

dyer@wivax.UUCP (Stephen Dyer) (06/01/84)

This is not IBM PC based, but a "non-product" developed specifically
for programs like MIT's "Project Athena." Whether it will ever turn into
anything real is an open question.

I think you ought to check it out again. NSC was planning GENIX
(especially for SYSTEM V) for the 16032 and 32032 before ATHENA.
They seemed to feel it was a real product, even if the IBM PC with
16032 co-processor is, indeed, a non-product. I wouldn't leave
National looking unreal on account of the peach.

I was working for an outfit that bid on the GENIX work about a
year ago (in Boston).

The opinions expressed are mine, not necessarily those of NSC, TSI,
MIT, nor Project Athena.
