My configuration: SE/30 w/ 5 Meg running 6.0.5 with HyperCard 2.0 Quantum 80 (used to stick, but hasn't in 6 months) Imagewriter II Prometheus 2400 MiniFax modem (send only) MacRecorder Last night my Mac froze up. The switch on the side just flashed the screen (and turned of a few pixels). There was no chime. I turned the Mac off and watched a movie. Afterwards, it booted up, but only after hitting the reset switch, which was now chiming. I immediately backed up the the most important 1440K of data. About 3 hours later, the screen froze again, same problem. I went to bed. This morning it booted up again. I hope it doesn't die before I finish this article. What's wrong with my Mac? Also, I'm concerned that whoever takes a look at it is going to say "Board Swap" when it's just a simple fix. Are the any hardware gurus out there that think they might be able to offer a cheaper solution? Preferably in the Boston or New England area, but I'm not too picky. I fixed this problem, I think, by opening my Mac and reseating the Apple ROM. I also wiggled the memory chips, zapped my PRAM and lowered my ATM font cache from 1024 to 512. I have a 5 Meg SE/30. While it was open I noticed that 2 of the 4 256K chips have parity and 2 do not. Could that cause problems? Another Message in the Bottle from Robert DeBenedictis

In-Reply-To: message from deben@world.std.com Robert, you said that your HD used to stick. Did you have the EPROM of the HD changed? I had similar problems and since I had the EEPROM changed I haven't had any problems with the HD. Check with you dealer about the free upgrade (if you still have warrenty).
