I installed an 8*24GC video card on my Mac II and could not make it work. I then installed the card on a Mac IIcx and the card worked perfectly. (All the appropriate software was installed on both machines.) So, I suspect that my Mac II is the problem. This is a very early machine, purchased shortly after intro in April '87. It must have the "bad" ROMs and probably has the PMMU socket with the missing pins. Could either of these be the problem with the 8*24GC failing to work? If so, will/can an authorized Apple dealer still replace the motherboard for free? Herb Poppe hpoppe@ncar.ucar.edu NCAR (303) 497-1296 1850 Table Mesa Dr. Boulder, CO 80307-3000

Herb, Your problem is probably that you've got Rev. A ROMs in that "old" Mac II and there should have been some notice from Apple indicating that the 8*24 GC requires Rev. B ROMs. Rev. B ROMs are supposed to be FREE with a motherboard swap from an Apple dealer. Fabian Ramirez SuperMac fabian@cup.portal.com
