Well, I have an Ehman 30 meg HD that I bought about 2.5 years ago. A few months ago, it started being flakey about powering up, and earlier this year, it stopped completely. So I called them up and they told me to send it in. After a long ringamarole when I was trying to find out if they got the drive, what the status of it was, etc. (which was shared on another message here a few weeks ago) they finally told me that the power supply's burnt out and that it would cost $325 to fix it! Sighing, I told them not to fix it, and bought another, bigger drive from antoher company. And, of course, Ehman charged me $25 for looking at it... Well, when I told the local hardware techie about this, he told me that power supplies are real easy and cheap to replace, and offered to take a look at it. So I took it to him, and he took it apart, and lo and behold, the power supply was fine! It was disconnected, so he re-connected it. He found that the platter wasn't spinning, so he adjusted it and everything started up again fine... my old data is still there, even! I'm glad I didn't buy my new drive from Ehman! -- Ian Chai Internet: chai@cs.ukans.edu Bitnet: 2fntnougat@ukanvax
