[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Experiences with Chinon CD-ROM drive?

james@netcom.COM (James L. Paul) (03/29/91)

I'm planning to purchase the CD-ROM drive that's out by Chinon. (I don't
have the model number in front of me, but I think it's the only one they
have.) They claim 350 ms access time, and I can get it for a decent
price.

I'd like to hear from anyone who has experience using this drive with a
Macintosh. I haven't heard any comments on it yet.

Thanks!

-James

I also saw this CD-Drive advertisend on an info-sheet from a German
Hardware-Dealer. But this dealer only sells IBM related stuff.

But since this drive has an scsi-interface I think that it can be connected
to the mac on the hardware-level. What I'm interested in is if there exists
any Mac driver software for this CD-Drive from Chinon so you can operate
it from the mac.

Maybe it is possible to use driver software which originally was
developped for other CD-Drives available ?!

It's my understanding that there is not problem using this drive with the
Mac. It's sold by several Mac dealers, and available through Mac ditribution,
as well as being advertised in magazines like MacUser. They claim to support
both Mac HFS and High-Sierra formats.

I'm still looking for comments about it from a owner.
