From the Imagewriter II book: Error Light Blinking Irregularly - Check the DIP
SWITCH SW2-4; located towared the front-left corner of the printer, possibly
under the ribbon deck. If the IW II has NOT got either the memory expansion
card or the Appletalk option, the switch should be set to open, else set to
closed.

My imagewriter is flashing at me.. Short - Long - Short. Can anyone
tell me what this means and how to fix it.. I have checked the paper
the ribbin, replaced both and nothing.. the printer does not initialize, i.e.
it does not move the print head upon power up.
PLEAZE HELP, as I am a college student and I need this printer up and working
so I can print out reports and other documents.. Thank you

If I worked for MacUser, I'd probably say something dumb like "You must be
using a bootleg copy of the ImageWriter since you apparently don't have the
IWII Owner's Manual."

Paraphrased from said manual:

Error light on continuously: printer out of paper.

   Error light blinking, 2 causes:
     1. front cover may be loose or off
     2. paper or print mechanism jam

Error lightblinks irregularly: check DIP switch SW2-4

It sounds like you have error #3. At this point I think it best that I refer
you to the diagrams and instructions in Appendix A (or wherever it appears in
other versions of the manual), just in case there are minor variations from the
IWII of 3 years ago; besides, a diagram makes things much clearer.
