We are in the process of separating our small Macintosh network from the PC file server (Novell) and I need some information on external hard drives. System configuration: Server: Mac IIsi 5Mb ROM, 80Mb internal drive running AppleShare also connected to a Cayman Gatorbox to allow file transfers etc. to main site machines Nodes: approx 15 macintoshes mostly Mac+ and Mac SE a couple SE/30's and Mac II (different flavors) mostly running System 6.0.5 ImageWriter II LaserWriter II NT Connections: connected with PhoneNet connectors (RJ11 jacks) also connected to our campus ethernet via the GatorBox External drive specs: 150-? Mb (? is under 300 due to price considerations) <$1000 Yes, I've read the article on hard drives in the March 1991 issue of MacWorld. I have a couple ideas on what seems to be possible, but would like input from real people out there :-) The 3 drives I'm considering at the moment are: 1) Club Mac's 170Mb (Quantum) - $819; 2) MacLand'a 170Mb (Quantum) - $829; and 3) HDI's PowerDrive 210 (Quantum) - $899. If you have experience with these, or have suggestions of others that fit our constraints, please respond by email.
