[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Imagewriter odd characters - ethernet effect?

gilbertd@cricket.bio.indiana.edu (Don Gilbert) (04/06/91)

Several imagewriters in our department have started misprinting --
printing stray characters or random bitmaps on some lines. Most commonly
seen is a "KO" at the right edge of lines, sometimes superscripted. All
4 or 5 imagewriters show this. Problems appear sometimes every few pages,
sometimes 1 in 10 pages. These are all non-appletalked imagewriters connected
to Mac SEs. I have in the last 4 months put ethernet cards in all the macs here,
and the printer problems may all have started when the network went in. I've
re-installed system (6.0.5) and ethernet software (Asante version 3.1) to no avail.
I've tried plugging the printer into either printer or phone port. My only
guess is that somehow the ethernet card / software may be randomly writing
data into the printer/phone port serial buffer on the mac. Does this problem
sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks -- Don
