[comp.sys.mac.hardware] SCSI drive problem

Please help me with the following problem:

Recently I replaced my Mac Plus with a new Mac LC cpu. Everything worked
fine until I tried to plug my old external SCSI drive (45Mb made by Cutting
Edge) into the new machine. A sad Mac face always appeared followed by two
lines of hex numbers. My first thought was that it was due to a SCSI chain
id problem. But my old drive has an id '2' while my internal drive has an
id '0', and both of them have internal terminator. Then I thought it might
be due to a software compatibility problem since I cannot use my old diskettes
(with system 6.02) to boot on Mac LC. (and is it supposed to be like this?)
The problem is that I cannot access my old drive now (so the old system still
sits there.) I have tried Apple HD setup utility but it cannot identify the
old drive either.

Any suggestion or idea will be highly appreciated.
