[comp.sys.mac.hardware] StyleWriter and Paper!

Steve Heckler (04/10/91)

If you've recently purchased a StyleWriter, you've probably spent some money
trying to find the paper that yields the best results. Initially, I figured
that the more you spent, the better the results you would get, so I purchased
some 100% cotton 20 lb Southworth Parchment Deed. Not a good idea. The paper
is great, but the ink from the StyleWriter seems to soak in too far and blurs
on the edges.

My recommendation is 25% cotton rag bond. I've used Mead's 25% cotton
Gilbert Recycled Paper, and had tremendous success. The contrast is excellent,
and it is very hard to smear the paper except with water (of course).

One warning: before you buy paper for the StyleWriter, check the texture
first. Paper with a smooth finish will yield only average results. You want
the paper to have a definite roughness to it.

If you have tried paper that you like or have other tips for getting
higher quality results from the StyleWriter, please let me know. Please direct
your ideas to sheckler@angelo.stanford.edu. If you wish to ask me questions,
please send mail to sheckler@leland.stanford.edu. I will post a summary in a
few days.

I just use form-feed paper as in the Deskjet, the output looks
great.

By the way, is there any spooler works with the Stylewriter?

25% cotton 20lb bond (regular finish) works great. It is still very expensive-
has anyone tried 20lb regular (not cotton) bond? (BTW, the paper I use is
Southworth 403C)
