[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Which is the better IIsi deal?

bst2948@cec2.wustl.edu (Bryan Sauhsung Tung) (04/20/91)

Washington University (St. Louis) is offering two configurations of the IIsi: 3/40 for $2450
      5/80 for $2975

What size memory is used in these configurations? Would it be cheaper to buy the 3/40 and add 2 megs of RAM and another hard disk?

Thanks!

I know this may sound screwy but realize that you will have to buy 4megs of
memory to upgrade the 3 meg machine -> 5 meg... becuase the first bank of
the si has 1 meg of 256k SIMMs in it that you cannot remove! So you must remove
the 2 meg bank of 512k SIMMs and replace them with 4-1Meg SIMMs. Then you
can either give (or sell) the 2 meg bank to someone else, or you could use them as decorations. I find the apple 80meg hard drives to be noticbly faster
than the standard 40meg and if you are going to upgrade anyway....
