Sorry about having to post to the the newsgroup Jim, but I pressed the wrong key (I'm using a Hypercard stack to access usenet) and your message vanished (alongwith the e-mail address). Re. the video expander not working with the 1987 MacII video board, I don't think it will since RasterOps says (and I quote from the expander documentation), 'The expander is compatible with genlockable RasterOps products, including the ColorBoard 364, 8S/24S, and the RasterOps 16PC. It is also compatible with Apple's 8.24GC card'. I don't think you have an 8.24 card. I connected the expander to a 1989 MacII 'Toby' video card, and the NTSC output is gibberish which confirms what RasterOps says. I called them and they said that they could make the expander compatible with the old MacII card with a minor hardware upgrade. I wasn't horribly interested since I have a 364 card to play around with anyway. As regards NTSC video quality, be prepared for a fairly nasty surprise. Any Mac picture element (or text) that is one pixel thick will flicker its a** off because of the interlacing. That means that making videos of the Mac desktop is a no-no because of those ghastly thin horizontal lines at the top of every window and all that small text. However, I managed to make a decent 3-D animation using thicker lines and large/bold text. Color rendition is decent. Hope this helps. Can you give me some info on the MacII video card utility. I've heard about it, but haven't chased it yet ? Sundar_Prasad@mtsg.ubc.ca <Internet> userffa3@ubcmtsg <Bitnet> Civil Engineering UBC, Vancouver V6T 1W5 CANADA <Snailnet>
