Many thanks to the people who responded to my request for information on DAT drives. Especially to Shelly Brisbin, who recommended Third Wave Computing as a reliable vendor; it looks like we`ll end up purchasing their 2.0 Gb drive. Now, however, I need input on other equipment, in particular, large hard drives and Ethernet boards. We will shortly purchase a large (600 MB) hard drive for one of our AppleShare file servers. From what I've seen, prices for these drives (depending on the mechanism) run about $1600- $1900 US. Does anybody have any recommendations at all for particular a) mechanisms; or b) vendors? We`ve been looking at Wren mechanisms, but I don't know much about any of the vendors who package them. In a previous discussion of smaller hard drives, APS was highly recommended. Any comments? We will also purchase some new Ethernet boards. I'm interested in comments on boards for any Macintosh model, but I'd particularly like to know about good boards for the Macintosh IIsi. Issues are a) reliability; b) power requirements, for the IIsi at any rate; c) software--particularly System 7.0 compatibility, which I noticed was discussed earlier; and d) price. The usual: please send me electronic mail and I'll summarize. -- David Walton Internet: dwal@midway.uchicago.edu University of Chicago { Any opinions found herein are mine, not } Computing Organizations { those of my employers (or anybody else). }
