[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Faulty IIsi Superdrive?

denali@leland.Stanford.EDU (Michael Favero) (04/29/91)

I currently own a IIsi (40Mb hard drive, 5 Mb RAM, running
system 6.0.7) which I received in middle December, 1990. I've been
really happy with it, but now the fairy tale is starting to unravel.
The internal Superdrive has been refusing to initialize high-density
disks for me. Out of 30 disks (Maxell Super-RD MF2-HD's) it only
successfully initialized 10. The rest of the disks, which subsequently
formatted on another machine, were spit out during the middle of the
verification stage. I've also experienced errors in reding Word files,
but these have been far and few in between. What I would like to know
is if any other users have experienced similar problems with the IIsi
or Superdrive in general? Any help would be appreciated. I plan to
take my machine into have it serviced, but I would like to go in as
knowledgable as possible.

Thanks in advance!
