A friend has a 4-year-old Macbottom 45Mb Hard drive. Recently, it suddenly stopped working. It doesn't mount at all. SCSI Tools reports a phase error. Configuration: Mac + (was 512KE) running Finder 5.5 (System date: 11/4/87) SCSI Tools version 1.1M (c) 1987 Personal Computers Peripherials Corp. MacBottom 45Mb HD, vintage 1987 Messages reported by SCSI Tools: Error: drive ID5 while attempting to mode sense Mac reports phase error during data in/out phase Drive reports command complete; check condidtion Drive reports medium eorror: Defect not found Note that this trouble was reported to me over the telephone, so the punctuation and exact words in the SCSI Tools report may be slightly inaccurate.
