[comp.sys.mac.hardware] MacBottom crash - phase error - need help

cs4304ak@cse.uta.edu (David Richardson) (04/30/91)

A friend has a 4-year-old Macbottom 45Mb Hard drive. Recently, it
suddenly stopped working. It doesn't mount at all. SCSI Tools reports
a phase error.

Configuration:
Mac + (was 512KE) running Finder 5.5 (System date: 11/4/87)
SCSI Tools version 1.1M (c) 1987 Personal Computers Peripherials Corp.
MacBottom 45Mb HD, vintage 1987

Messages reported by SCSI Tools:
Error: drive ID5 while attempting to mode sense
Mac reports phase error during data in/out phase
Drive reports command complete; check condidtion
Drive reports medium eorror: Defect not found

Note that this trouble was reported to me over the telephone, so the
punctuation and exact words in the SCSI Tools report may be slightly
inaccurate.

Thanks for any help. Please reply via email, I will summarize if there
is enough response (or people requesting a summary).
