I'm looking for a frame grabber with the following specs:
1) captures at least 1 frame/second
2) possibly very low resolution (16 X 16 X 1 would do!) if this
will help to get the speed; color is not important.
3) accessible from some programming language; must be able to
examine the image data structure without disk I/O. Prefer
access from HyperCard or Lisp, but Pascal or C would do.
4) as inexpensive as possible.
Something really low-end should be able to do the job IF the
designers allowed for a faster/low-res mode, and IF they provide
a programming interface of some sort. The MacWarehouse catalog
contains a listing for "Computer Eyes - B&W" for just $199.
They seem to say that a capture takes 6 seconds, but perhaps there's
a fast/low-res mode? They don't mention anything about access/
control from programs. If anybody knows more about "Computer Eyes"
or about any other relatively cheap (< $1000) frame grabbers
with programming interfaces & the rest, I'd love to hear from
you! Please email; I'll summarize responses to the net.
Thanks! -Lee Spector (spector@cs.umd.edu)
