[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Fire, Smoke and VGA on the LC.

Summary of my experience with VGA monitors on the Mac LC after
constructing LC -> VGA adaptor:

- NEC Multisync 2A
	-Works well with VGA output.

- "Clone" VGA color
	- Does not work. There is some kind of image, but it is jumping
all over the screen in a random fashion (looks like PAY TV
          without a descrambler).

- "Clone" VGA Monochrome monitor
	- BAD ghosting (1/4" almost) everywhere. The monitor no longer
works on a PC. Basically, the LC seems to have blown the
monitor somehow (only slightly skewed horizontal lines that
move up and down remain when plugged to a PC).

Basically, the output only seems to work with GOOD monitors and can
result in the destruction of really cheapo ones. I haven't looked
into the destruction yet, but it looks just like a TTL monitor with the
horizontal sync busted.

I'd like to hear from other people who have attempted this too!

I have seen good output on an AT&T color VGA and an IBM 12" monochrome. If you
looked really close, you could see a bit of jittering on both. The 12 picture
was crisper, but of course the dots are closer together. If I could find a 12"
color VGA I'd be a happy camper.

I did not see anything on a Gateway VGA. I think that it does not use TTL
level signals. The LC will only drive TTL level signals, not low impedence,
according to Macintosh Tech Note #144.

I have also been attempting to connect an LC to a VGA monitor. While
I haven't had fire/smoke... I also haven't had much success. The image is
perfect horizontally but acts like vsync is not occuring, the screen doesn't
roll but does not set to top of screen properly. It instead is about half way
down, it jitters substantially with about an inch movement in either
direction, but doesn't roll.

Any ideas ?
