Howdy- I work in a small mac lab here on campus and brought in an external 3.5 drive a bought about a year ago. The drive (never before used) will work only on 2 out of 10 SEs and won't work at all on our SE/30s or IIcx. On the Machines it doesn't work with, it will not recognize a formated disk or can it format a disk. It works like a charm on the two SEs. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA WHY THIS IS HAPPING???????? We can't come up with anything in the Lab and I am ready to throw this drive out the window since the warranty is now null. (please no flames about why I never tested the drive before now) I would appreciate any info. ------ken "What do you mean we ran out of gas?" ______-==-______ ____-------=----------------=-------____ ________________ _ _- --------________________-------- (______________(_||_) _______ / /_____/_____ _- Capt Ken Haynes \__________- CO, USS L'Hopital Taylor Series Class Starship NCC-x^ln(1701) United Federation of Calculus Haters haynes@unssun.unr.edu or haynes@tahoe.unr.edu

Drive software is usually in the form of an init, an it is often necessary to mount a drive because of the way in which the drive was formatted. Check the original disks that came with the drive and see if they contain an init which you should install in the system folder of each machine on which you wish to use the drive. Another problem could have to do with the termination of the drive. Depending on what other scsi devices are connected to each of the other machines, you could run into problems with having the external drive (not) terminated.
