Connectix's literature for their Maxima product claims that Maxima will also let a vanilla Mac II use (special) 4 MB SIMMs. (And I quote from the Maxima literature: "Original Mac IIs are normally incompatible with four Megabyte SIMMs but will run if MAXIMA is installed.") Roy said that Mode32 will have this feature as well. Neither of these programs require Mac II's to get the HDFD upgrade.
