I recently installed 2.5 meg of memory to 5 mac+ in one of our electronic music studios and it worked find for 4 of the computers, but the other started to behave rather strangely. Not long after installing the memory some users started to complain about this one computer coming up with a "low in memory, please save ..." I checked the computer several times running large documents and never got the error. I checked the "about finder" and it showed 2.5 megs. Well, in the last week or so this problem started to get worse and I was able to confirm it. When trying to print a one page doc. using word, for example, the "low in memory..." warning never fails to show. If you don't save and quit the computer crashes. I installed a new operating system and visually checked the memory (actually, I removed it re-installed it) and everything seems to be in order. "About the finder" keeps showing 2.5 megs but the computer insists it doesn't have memory. We are not running multi- finder, so it is not that we have several apps. open simmultaneously. Any suggestions? (I was going to use a program for checking memory which icon represents an elephant. However, it's pretty old and I think I read it only checks up to 1 meg. And don't remember the name of this program. Are there any PD programs able to check more than 1 meg?) Thanks, Guillermo Scharffenorth scharff@ucunix.san.uc.edu
