One day my friend opened his Mac II (first time in two years) and found that its inside was covered with dust. But another friend of mine who has a tower PC has minimum amount of dust in his computer. How come Mac attracts more dust than PC? And Mac internal disk drive is the worst of all? How come Apple can't make a computer that can be as clean as PC made by some third party compnay? Oh, another thing, why is my friend's Mac II has a louder fan noise than PC's? Whenever I use his Mac, it drives me nuts.

Macs don't attract anymore dust than PC's, it really depends on the environment age and how often you have the Mac on, relative to your friends PC, which suggests to me that your friends Mac was used a quite a bit more than the PC. (I mean, who uses a PC unless you REALLY have to, right?) :) As for fans, loudness is relative, there are a few MAC SE's with older type fans that sound like 747's in flight! However, there are PC's, like our tower MODEL 80 IBM in the lab that doesn't sound althat quite either. If you don't like the fan, get a replacement. If you don't like dust in your computer, don't use it! --Gregory PS: On a techy note, dust on components is a killer. Heat disapation goes way down and heats everything up. Dust on your computers fan blades reduces air movement, and increases noise! So get a good can of Degreaser and spray your innards once in awhile. Remember, a cool computer is not just a MAC, its a happy computer!

In Macs, there is gunk on the outside of the chips, while in PCs, it's on the inside. -- steve.ligett@dartmouth.edu or ...!dartvax!steve.ligett
