Here's one that has even the techies at APS stumped: I just bought a 105 meg external from APS to go with my SE/30, which has its own 40 meg internal. I want the internal to be the startup disk, so it has a system folder on it. The external is properly terminated, SCSI ID=6, and hooked up to the mac through the 50-to-25 pin scsi cable. Running generic system 6.0.4 with all inits removed. According to the APS instructions, I should turn on the external hd first, let it spin up, and then turn on the Mac. What happens instead is that the fan in the external goes on, but the disk itself doesn't spin up until the moment when I turn on the Mac. Then the Mac boots using the system on the internal hd, as desired, but the external doesn't mount. Basically, I have to mount it manually using SCSIprobe every time I turn on the machine. Besides this being a pain, it shouldn't be required, right? Any ideas/suggestions? This problem occurs with and without the termination block attached. If the external is not hooked up to my Mac, it spins up at power up, with or without the termination block attached. APS is suggesting there's something wrong with my Mac's SCSI bus. I hope they're wrong. Net-Advice (tm?) would be most appreciated. Biswa Ghosh 550 Cory Hall arpa: biswa@janus.berkeley.edu U.C. I have exactly the same problem. I even got a replacement disk drive from APS and the same thing happens. I am using a Mac IIsi.
