We have this CD-ROM drive made by Toshiba (model TXM-3201A1), which we have been using on a Toshiba PC. We would like to use it on one of our Macs also. Now, the manual states that the drive will work on Macs, and we have a SCSI cable for it, but... when we plug into the Mac and power everything up, the Mac refuses to boot! (The manual is for PC XT/ATs only.) To me it looks like a SCSI problem - it's not the IDs - that was the first thing I checked. I've tried it on IDs 1, 3, and 6, none of them worked. The Mac is a IIci with 5Mb and some INITs (although it never gets that far, so that isn't the problem). The drive has six DIP switches in this order: Switches 1-3 set the SCSI ID (3-bit octal representation) Switch 4 parity on (1) / off (0) Switch 5 arbitration on/off (1/0) <-- what is this?? Switch 6 test: 0 = normal operation 1 = audio signal reproduction mode Currently the setting are 1 0 0 0 0 0 (i.e. SCSI ID 1, everything else off). Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing the problem? Oh, the drive is externally terminated too. Also, does anyone know what software I need to drive the thing? I got a disk today from our CSC with a "Toshiba CD-ROM driver" on it, but that's all we know about it - no docs. Please email replies - I do not read this group. Thanks in advance. -- See ya Nigel. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nigel Stanger, Internet: stanger@otago.ac.nz c/o University of Otago, P.O.
