[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Accelerated Mac Plus Has Same StartUp Bing Tone

steveh@tasman.cc.utas.edu.au (Steven Howell) (05/21/91)

	Evening.

I have been testing a few accelerators to suit plus and SE's.

One thing i noticed was the fact that the Startup tone was still the same pitch.
If you increase the speed of a CPU based system, in theory, all pheripherals
should increase in speed also. So its obvious that this isn't the case.

So.. How is a mac actually accelerated, considering that the main cpu is still locked into 8 MHz. The 68000 has 2 pins that will render the bus to another cpu.
This is known as Bus request (-BR) and bus granted (-BG) (- = active lo)

Are these signals used by accelerators. How do they combine 68020 into
a 68000 based system - what happens with the Upper Data Strobe and Lower Data
strobe, not to mention a heap of other 68000 signals.

What my question is, is do they accelerate the system by increased data
thru put or do they half the load between two CPU's

Thanks In Advance
