[comp.sys.mac.hardware] new cpu for a mac plus?

hagan@ecs.umass.edu (05/20/91)

Ok, here is one for the hardware hackers:

I have a mac plus, and would like to buy a 16mhz 68010 (or, if this doesnt
do, a 16mhz 68000) and get rid of the DIV 2 on my clock, boosting my
machine to 16mhz.

besides the cpu and the clock, what else would i have to change?
can the rest of the motherboard logic take 16mhz? will the
serial ports, and scsi timing be shot to hell, or will the
chips frazz out?

any other problems/ideas?? Anyone else wanna try?? this sounds like
the easiest way to get some more bang out of a plus/SE/classic

I will try to post a compilation of replies, but, my news access may
fade with the ending of the semester

I have an upgraded 128 with a 68010 chip that the previous owner installed.
The serial port doesn't work because of timing problems. I'm going to
put a 68000 back in if I can fix some other problems first.
(See my ugly sounds post about those other problems!)
