[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Hard Disk Problems

I'm having problems with a 3-year-old Rodime 600RX (69 MB). It will crash
occasionally when I restart (never shutdown-turn back on scenario; only
restarts). It seems the boot blocks get trashed big time. Norton gives the
error "SCSI Error, Bus Busy" when it tries to do anything with it. This has
been happening on average about once every nine months. Recently, it happened
three times in a span of three hours. Once during formatting Silverlining
encountered a bad block, but when I reformatted again, it didn't find it
which I thought was interesting. I have an external Maxtor which I have
never had the slightest problems with. What I want to know is if there is
anyway the problem could be with my Mac II or (more obvious interpretation)
the Rodime just plain sucks. The place I take it to get repaired is a good
distance away and would be in the shop for considerable time before I could
get it back, so I thought I'd post to the net for a more informed opinion.

I'm also considering purchasing a replacement drive and have narrowed it down
to the Quantum 210 and the Maxtor 213. I'm leaning towards the Maxtor since
it is supposedly faster, quieter, 3 megs more capacity, and is $40 cheaper
according to APS advertisement in MacWeek.

Thanks for any info you can give me.
