Well, it turns out that our problem with the Toshiba CD-ROM was
nothing to do with the drive at all. In fact it was the
supposedly "standard" SCSI cable! It occurred to me yesterday to
try switching cables with a removable hard drive that we have,
and guess what? It worked like a charm! Booted up, mounted itself
on the desktop and has run fine since! Needless to say we are
going to buy a new SCSI cable :-)
BTW, why would this be? I seem to remember reading somewhere once
that Mac SCSI was slightly different from standard SCSI. Is this
true, or am I just imagining things??
