[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Toshiba XM-3201B Questions

autry@thor.corp.sgi.com (Larry Autry) (05/16/91)

I have a Toshiba XM-3201B (in enclosure) and I have questions concerning the
installation of this drive on an SE/30.

Is the Apple CD-Rom software supposed to work with this drive? If so, what
switch settings or other adjustment must be made to the drive or the Mac?
Is it necessary to get the Toshiba Mac Kit? (Includes S/W)
Any other suggestions regarding how I can successfully connect this drive to a
Mac would be appreciated.

Thank You,
Larry Autry

No, the AppleCD SC driver works only with the AppleCD SC drive. The
Toshiba driver sold by Toshiba works with their drive.

Yes, unless you care to try a third-party driver.

You can purchase a driver from Optical Media International or Trantor
Systems that may work.

For the software driver, you can't use the AppleCD Driver, but all of
the other files (ISO 9660, High Sierra) are the same. You can even
use the CD Remote DA. If you want just the driver, I bought it from
CD Technology here in San Jose for $50. I just asked for the
software update. As far as switch setting, the software I got from
them had a book with all of the proper settings in it. I think it
was the first three from the left are the SCSI ID, then everything
else is off except for the parity, the second from the right. That
should do it. If you need more info, send me some e-mail and I'll
bring in my owners manual with all of the details.
