[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Question about syquest drives & companies

hwan@quads.uchicago.edu (chang yon hwang) (05/24/91)

This is a question for anyone who owns the syquest removable drive. I am
considering buying one and would like some advice.
First: I am buying in the US and taking it to Hong Kong and Tailand in a
couple of months, so reliability and service is very important.
Second: Since the quantam 105 is so cheap right now, is it better. I would
probably have to buy the 210 quantum.

I would like any advice and tips about the syquest drives and cartridges.
How reliable are they? How often and soon do the cartridges go bad?
What else is there to know?

If I am going to buy the syquest drive, which company makes the best one.
Since the mechanism is the same, why do the prices range anywhere from $450
 to $800?
The three companies I am looking at right now are Mirro, Ehman, and Jasmine.
Does anyone own any of these? How are they?
They are all around $499. I don't know much about the Ehman, but I hear that
the Mirror company makes solid drives. I know that Jasmine used have good
quality but lousy service. Does anyone know about their service now, since
they were bought out by Chess?

Thanks in advance for all help.
