[net.followup] Role Playing Societies and Live Steel in Combat

jm@tekig.UUCP (Jeff Mizener) (06/18/84)

For a short while I was associated with the midwests biggest and oldest
rennaissance fair(e), now called "King Richard's Faire" in Gurnee IL
(To IH sites: does this fair still take place?). Before it became
overly commercial and expensive to get into, I was a trappist monk
helping an "anti-pope" (see the play "Martin Luther") sell Indulgences.

For the two years that I was doing this (74 and 75) there was a group
similar to the SCA, whose purpose was to give carefully choreographed
demonstrations of medevial fighting techniques. They were called
The American Footjousters. They used Live Steel. They were fun to
watch, and very safety conscious. The SCA people thought they were nuts.

I still have some indulgences left if anyone wants one...
