I seem to have a problem with HP when printing gray scale graphics, there would be a offset in the printhead so that graphics print out with band lines. I have called HP, and they claim that they know about the problem but does not know whether they will be a fix. Has anyone found a way to get around this problem? One of the reason I brought HP was because of 300dpi graphics, the bands makes the printer unacceptable for graphics use. Paul Siu upsiu@mcs.drexel.edu

Regarding DeskWriter "banding". This is usually due to the ink cartridge, not the printer, which will sometimes have some variation in ink drop size or direction resulting in the variation you have seen. A new cartridge may give better results. There are also some different print modes the driver could in theory use to mask this problem, but I don't know if our driver people are putting some of these modes into a new release of the driver (I kind of doubt it). I assume you don't have a clogged nozzle (print self test and look at the pattern), as this can lead to white bands as well. Laser printers also will have variation in black and grey scales. So will the StyleWriter. You may or may not find this other printers acceptable as well. Dave Neff neff@hpvcfs1.HP.COM
