[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Classic SIMM question

hampel@demon.siemens.com (Ken Hampel) (06/03/91)

I have a Classic 2/40. Does this mean that there's 1 MB soldered
on the motherboard and 4 slots filled with 256K SIMMs? I'm looking
to get more memory and a lot of the magazine ads talk about adding
an expansion card to the Classic. Do I need this expansion card
or can I get 4 1 MB SIMMs to replace the 256K SIMMs for a total of 5 MB?
My feeling is that you need an expansion card for the 1 MB Classic.
Thanks in advance,
Ken

I think it means that you have 1 meg soldered on the motherboard, and you
have an empty 2-simm slot expansion board with 1 meg soldered on it. You
can buy two 1 meg simms to put in these slots for a total of 4 meg. The
Classic ROMs won't access any more than that.

Cheers,
